Olympic Opening Ceremony among TV's inspiring moments

The Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics is the second most inspiring TV moment of all time, according to an audience survey.

Danny Boyle's extravagant production was seen by 23 million people in Britain and was only denied the top spot of inspirational moments by the moon landing.

These are the top votes in the audience survey:

  • 1969 lunar landing (14% of votes)
  • London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony (13% of votes)
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall (8% of votes)
  • Nelson Mandela's release from prison (5% of votes)

The survey also reveals the most inspiring TV events of 2012. The London 2012 Games came out in first place with 31% of the vote. They were followed by the Paralympics in second place with 12%.

7% of people said the Queen's Diamond Jubilee was their most inspiring moment of 2012.

And, the Great British Bake Off won 4% of the votes polled.
