'Snakes on a Plane' director David R Ellis dies aged 60

'Snakes on a Plane' director David R. Ellis has died at the age of 60.

His death was confirmed by his manager David Gardner, who said that Ellis' body was found in a hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa where he was working on a new film.

At this stage, no cause of death has been released.

Ellis, was working on Kite, a remake of the 1998 Japanese anime film, which was to star Samuel L. Jackson.

The actor tweeted his response at the news of Ellis' death.

So sad to hear of David R Ellis passing! So talented, so kind, such a Good Friend. He'll be missed. Gone too soon!

Ellis' previous directing credits included Shark Night 3D, The Final Destination, Cellular and Final Destination 2.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
