UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and global pop star Shakira, who is expecting her first baby with FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué, hosted an online baby shower to raise money for children living in extreme poverty across the world.
The 35-year-old Colombian singer has not announced her due date, but has posted a number of photographs suggesting the baby is likely to arrive this month.
The couple launched a "virtual living room" to allow well-wishers and fans to purchase life-saving treatments for families living in extreme poverty. She said:
In lieu of receiving gifts for our baby as with a traditional shower we would like to offer support for babies who live in conditions of extreme poverty throughout the world.
To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations.
Supporters can buy any number gifts from mosquito nets, polio vaccines, a baby weighing scale, and a peanut butter paste specially designed for malnourished children.
