'First' robot doctor begins work at a Northern Ireland hospital

What is thought to be the first robot doctor in the UK has begun working at a hospital in Northern Ireland.

Based at the high dependency unit of Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry, patients need round-the-clock attention, but they do not have an intensive care unit.

ITV Daybreak reports that the robot doctor gives them help from a specialist over 20 miles away, who controls the movement using a joystick.

It means there will be 24/7 access to the intensivists on the site to give advice and support on any of the patients in the high dependancy unit or throughout the hospital.

The aim is to try and create an "effective hospital network" using technology.
