Father of the Bride star Steve Martin is reportedly finally enjoying the joys of parenthood in real life after his wife gave birth to his first child.

Martin, 67, and his wife Anne Stringfield, 41, welcomed a child in December, the New York Post has reported. A source said the couple, who married in 2007, "worked hard" to have the baby.

The news of the newborn emerged after the couple was spotted with the child near their home in Los Angeles.

The comic actor and musician had joined a club of famous figures experiencing fatherhood at a pensionable age.

Nightclub impresario Peter Stringfellow last week announced he was set to father his third child, at the age of 72, almost a half century after he had his last child.

BBC journalist John Simpson, 69, is raising a young child after becoming a father again at 61, while MP George Galloway became a dad again at 56.
