After a mild start to the week, with temperatures peaking at 17C on Tuesday, it is all change going into the weekend.

After a thoroughly miserable end to the week for many - grey, wet conditions yesterday and today, mist and fog in places this afternoon - the Winter will return in the next few days.

Colder air will be seeping in over the weekend and temperatures will plunge. Expect frosty, icy nights with temperatures only a few degrees above freezing in the early morning come Monday.

Tomorrow rain will sink from the North to the South, turning to sleet and snow mostly over the higher ground. As the rain, sleet and snow moves away, clearing skies will develop with some sunshine.

It is looking even colder going into Sunday. Rain, sleet and snow could be seen across some southern counties. Eastern coastal counties will also be prone to wintry sleet and snow flurries.

Everywhere will feel bitterly cold, especially with the marked wind chill.
