China's state television CCTV reported the baby was found in a residential building in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang after residents reported the sound of a baby crying.

Firefighters had to remove a section of the pipe and take it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around the plastic to rescue the baby inside.

State television reported the child remains in a "stable condition" and police are looking for his parents.
