Britain's Top Ten lottery winners

Today's announcement that a Briton has won an eye-watering £81 million in the EuroMillions draw will place the lucky winners sixth in the National Lottery Rich List.

Here are the Top Ten lottery winners in the UK:

1. Colin and Chris Weir: £161,653,000

The largest amount ever claimed in a lottery in the UK was more than £161 million by a Scottish couple in July 2011.

Colin Weir, 64, and wife Chris, 55, who have been married for 30 years, are rumoured to have spent part of their fortune on a mansion and a slew of expensive cars for their friends.

2. Adrian and Gillian Bayford: £148,656,000

Children's nurse Gillian, 40, and record seller Adrian, 41, claimed the second-highest jackpot in August 2012.

The couple from Haverhill in Suffolk reportedly planned to spend their riches on trips to Disney World and the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

3. Anonymous: £113,019,926

Claimed in October 2010.

4. Dave and Angela Dawes: £101,203,600

Dave Dawes, 47, a shift supervisor for Premier Foods, and Angela Dawes, 43, a volunteer for the British Heart Foundation, had their lives changed for ever in October 2011.

The couple from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire hit the EuroMillions jackpot with only their third lottery ticket.

5. Anonymous: £84,451,320

Claimed in May 2010.

6. Unclaimed: £81,000,000

A Briton is reported to have won the sixth-largest amount, although no-one has come forward at time of writing.

7. Nigel Page: £56,008,113

Nigel Page, 43, described himself as a 'white van man' before his lottery win in February 2010. Presumably he drives something a little more pricey now.

8. Anonymous: £46,432,285

Claimed in February 2012.

9. Les and Sam Scadding and a syndicate: £45,570,835

The two jackpots were claimed by a couple from Caerleon in south Wales, and a group of seven office workers based in Merseyside in November 2009.

Grandfather and cancer survivor Lee Scadding was said to be unemployed and overdrawn when he won.

10. Cassey Carrington: £45,160,170

Cassey Carrington, an Iceland store supervisor, matched all five numbers and two Lucky Stars in the EuroMillions lottery in February 2012.

The 22-year-old reportedly said she planned to marry her painter fiancee Matt Topham.
