An unmanned Russian Proton-M rocket carrying three navigation satellites crashed today soon after its launch in Kazakhstan at 02:32 GMT.

Footage broadcast by Russian TV showed the rocket swerving to one side immediately after life-off, trying to correct itself, but instead veering in the opposite direction.

It then flew horizontally before exploding into a fireball.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.
