Rare snowstorm sweeps across Middle East leaving thousands without power

Countries across the Middle East have been hit by their heaviest snowfall in decades, bringing travel chaos and leaving thousands without power.

A Mediterranean storm called Alexa has caused mayhem across the region, bringing traffic to a standstill in Jerusalem and delivering greater hardship to Syrians in their capital Damascus.

Thousands of Israelis were left without power after the storm struck leaving snow up to 37 centimetres deep.

Snow and rain has swept across large parts of Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Egypt.
