An Australian adrenaline junkie's 'extreme cage diving' stunt backfired when he jumped into the water with a man-eating tiger shark protected only by a bird cage.
In an interview with Australia’s Channel 9, Shaun Harrington, 27, admitted: "It’s probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever done.”
“I thought I would just jump in, get a couple of shots and hop out, but the thing just went crazy.”
Marine experts say they are shocked that the 2.4m-long carnivore did not bite Mr Harrington.
The diver said he knew the shark was in the water when he jumped in, but he had not expected the beast to "come at him".
The stunt - off Coolangatta on the Gold Coast - was all caught on camera along with footage of him screaming in terror as he scrambled onto the boat to escape the shark.
Harrington was fortune to escape injury.
