Three Twitter users with very similar names to football stars have come together to talk about the abuse they receive online.

  • Scottish marketing worker Sarah Moyes is often mistaken for the daughter of under-pressure Manchester United manager David Moyes.
  • New Yorker Ashley Van Buren, whose Twitter name is @avb, regularly receives comments aimed at former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas.
  • Indian technology expert Ravi Visvesvara Prasad, who tweets as @rvp, is often sent messages intended for Manchester United and Holland striker Robin van Persie.

The three joined in conversation on Thursday to discuss the often vulgar outbursts directed at them, with @avb humorously concluding that she at least gets breaks from the abuse because her namesake is often sacked.

I am no relation to the football manager David Moyes. Can people please stop mentioning me in tweets, I'm pretty sure he has his own account

@moyesy same thing happened to me a few months back. It's bizarre and frustrating, but it'll (mostly) blow over.

@avb yeah I heard, I'm very much looking forward to it blowing over! x

@moyesy @avb i dont think it will ever stop or blow over. I've had it really bad since aug'12. kudos to the witty humorous way you handle it

The three became aware of one another when presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker retweeted @moyesy's plea for disgruntled Manchester United fans to leave her alone.

@garylineker thanks! my twitter is having a complete meltdown right now!

Comedian Dara O Briain noted that while conversation was at first amusing, there was a serious issue with the "horrendous" comments being sent to the unfortunate recipients.

Actually, while the three together in that last tweet is quite sweet, some of the abuse @moyesy is getting is horrendous.
