After the long hot weeks of 2013, a repeat performance is demanded by many this year and indeed this week promises some hot and sunny conditions for many –potentially our warmest daytime values of the year so far.
But be careful what you wish for! A warm southwesterly wind will push temperatures across much of England and Wales well above the seasonal average, potentially hitting 30C/86F by Thursday which would make those areas hotter than Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Barcelona and Rome.
Cloud and rain will keep those temperatures at a rather more comfortable level across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
However, the warm plume of air being dragged in from the near continent will not only give us rising temperatures and humidity, it also brings us the promise of livelier weather. This mini heatwave is likely to reach its thundery climax later on Thursday and into Friday with the potential for some substantial rain.
