The UK can expect temperatures to bounce up a few degrees this week. We are in for our hottest spell of the summer so far as very warm air seeps in from the Continent.
From Thursday expect some of the highest temperatures of the year through England and Wales with around 27-29C in places and possibly up to 30C in the south-east and east Midlands.
Don't assume we will have wall to wall blue skies though. It will become increasingly humid and in landlocked urban areas it will feel oppressive and uncomfortable. Expect uncomfortable and stuffy nights.
The heat and humidity will trigger thunderstorms, frequent lightning and torrential rain is possible, as well as hail.
