A giraffe was killed in South Africa after its owner drove under a bridge while transporting the creature in a truck, according to witnesses.
The animal apparently hit its head and died moments later, News24 reported.
People on social media tweeted images of two giraffes in the back of a truck, allegedly before the incident happened.
But moments later one of the tall creatures knocked its head when the truck drove under a bridge.
“Took this pic on the N1 earlier. Just heard one Giraffe passed away! Apparently due to head trauma! So sad!” a Twitter user said.
It was reported that the other giraffe was taken to a wildlife veterinary clinic. South African-based animal welfare charity Tshwane SPCA said they were investigating the incident with the intention of laying charges against those responsible.
