Tributes have poured in for former Radio 1 DJ Mike Smith, who has died aged 59 from complications following heart surgery.
Leading the way was his close friend and former colleague Noel Edmonds who said he was "heartbroken" over the news.
In a statement he added: "I am typing this through tears. He was so much more than a presenter. Mike was that rare individual- the consummate broadcaster."
Philip Schofield, who presented Going Live! with Smith's wife Sarah Greene, took to Twitter to express his condolences, as did many more who knew him.
Smith started off on hospital radio before getting a job at the BBC in the 1980s.
He presented Radio 1's Breakfast Show and Top of the Pops but later ran a successful aerial filming business.
Smith's wife Sarah Greene thanked staff at the hospital where he died for their "care and compassion" and requested her family be allowed to grieve in peace.
