The Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson used jelly babies to help arrange his team ahead of their win against Conference rivals Barnet.
Striker Ben Tomlinson tweeted an image of his manager arranging the sweets on a kit locker, under the caption: "Funny tactics board".
Simpson adopted the innovative method after the team's bus failed to turn up and the players had to travel to London in their cars, leaving no room for the tactics board.
Simpson's jelly babies' message seemed to get through, as the Imps earned a 2-1 win against the Conference leaders.
The manager has appeared to have started a trend as the Lincoln City under-10s were later pictured copying the trick.
Simpson revealed that his players usually eat the jelly babies before the matches instead of using them as a tactics board.
He refused to rule out using them again, telling BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "If we can keep winning I will do whatever is necessary".
Simpson also praised the team's "fantastic team spirit" in the difficult circumstances.
