How could rail fare rises affect your season ticket?

Rail companies are expected to raise fares by an average of 3.5% next year. Under the current guidelines, they are also allowed to increase some fares by as much as 5.5%, as long the average does not exceed 3.5%.

We will not know the actual fare rises until the new year since rail companies have some discretion about how the rises are spread.
