A missing chapter from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been published for the first time.

The lost fifth chapter, published in the Guardian, describes an extra room in Willy Wonka's factory called the Vanilla Fudge Room.

Not that Roald Dahl's classic needs any extra publicity - it has already sold over 50 million copies worldwide and been made into a film twice.

The new section reveals several changes from the final version of the book.

For instance there are 10 Golden Ticket winners instead of five.

There are also a number of characters who did not make it into the final draft, including Tommy Troutbeck and Wilbur Rice - both of whom meet a sticky end after riding railway cars carrying fudge to the Pounding and Cutting Room.

Illustrator Quentin Blake, who created memorable pictures to accompany Dahl's stories, told the BBC it was "fascinating" to see how the author's creation had changed over time.

I know that he rewrote and rewrote many times. For this last chapter about the vanilla fudge mountain he is leading a group of people who are not in the final book. It is interesting to see something at an earlier stage, you know, what happened in the cooking as it were. That's rather fascinating.
