The X Factor mogul Simon Cowell will take on Great British Bake Off's Mary Berry in a bid to find the country's top TV judge at the National Television Awards (NTAs).

The awards show organisers have come up with the new gong which pitches the pair against each other at next year's ceremony.

Other names in the running for the prestigious judge award include Cowell's co-star Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Lord Alan Sugar from The Apprentice.

The Voice's Will.i.am, Darcey Bussell from the Strictly Come Dancing panel, David Walliams from Britain's Got Talent and Dragon's Den Deborah Meaden are also in the running.

Other new categories created for the NTAs include best Skills Challenge Show - which pits The Great British Bake Off against The Apprentice and MasterChef.

The awards, hosted by Dermot O'Leary, will be shown live on ITV on January 21.

Viewers can vote for their favourites now before a final shortlist is drawn up in January.
