Records show that Poole is driver for Triangle Cab, a Florida taxi company owned by his mother, according to the NBC 33 News.

He was flabbergasted. He couldn't believe it.

It was quite a remarkable thing. My heart is still beating.

– Floyd Snyder, a friend who was with Poole when he won

Orange County authorities arrested Poole following allegations that he sexually assaulted a nine-year-old boy in 1999.

US media said that as part of a plea bargain, Poole pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault and was sentenced to 13 months he had already served in jail.

But the judge also ordered Poole to serve 10 years of sex offender probation and register as a sexual predator.

A judge revoked Poole's probation and sent him to prison for three years in 2003.

Friend Floyd Snyder, who believes Poole should enjoy the lottery jackpot, said: "I've known him for years and I've never seen any inclination of anything like that with him."

"He's a very positive person. Very kind. Giving. I think that's why he won. It's Christmas time and the dude deserves a break."

On Monday, Poole collected his winnings from the Super Millions scratch card at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

Officials from the lottery firm said he chose to receive his winnings in a one-off, lump-sum payment.
