Thousands of One Direction fans have taken to Twitter to voice their despair at reports the boy band is taking a year-long "hiatus" from March - with rumours suggesting the break could turn out to be a permanent one.
The Sun (£) newspaper quoted a "1D source" as saying the foursome would take some time apart to work on solo projects.
The report follows the departure of former fifth member Zayn Malik earlier this year.
A band spokesman has said he would not "comment on speculation".
Heartbroken fans have been bombarding social media with messages of outrage, devastation, and scepticism over the reports.
