The Powerball rollover climbed to $1.5 billion (£1 billion) on Tuesday, making it the largest world lottery jackpot for a single winner even larger, according to lottery officials.

The jackpot is worth $930 million (£645 million) if a winner chooses an immediate cash payout instead of annual payments over 29 years, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

The Powerball lottery draw is on Wednesday. The game is played in 44 states, Washington, and two U.S. territories.

The jackpot is by far the larges up for grabs in North America but Spain's latest elGordo lottery, or "The Fat One," had a prize pool of $2.4 billion (£1.6 billion) prize but it was awarded to thousands of ticketholders.

Powerball's jackpot could go to a single winner.
