A suspicious wife triggered a bomb alert after she fitted a tracking device to her husband's car.

A police cordon was placed around the car and police were about to evacuate nearby homes after the man called West Yorkshire Police to report the device.

Following the alert at 10am on Tuesday, police in Leeds were stood down at around 11am after the woman confessed to planting the GPS tracker herself.

This morning officers were called to a suspicious package in a car and an operation was put in place.

Before the woman's admission, Ministry of Defence bomb disposal experts had been contacted and Leeds City Council's emergency planning team was executing plans to set up temporary accommodation for evacuated residents in a nearby community centre.
