A thief who snatched a wallet from a parked car has been jailed after being caught on CCTV breaking into a happy dance at finding £50 inside.
Kamayi Matumona, aged 31, broke into the car in Laxley Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham, in the early hours of June 29 after spotting the wallet inside.
His delighted shimmy at finding the cash was captured by a street camera - but his euphoria was short-lived when police arrived on his doorstep just days later, after an officer recognised him from the video.
"We couldn’t believe it when we saw the footage - he was so happy at getting his hands on someone else’s cash that he did a little dance on the pavement," Sgt Alan Lawless, from West Midlands Police, said.
“He may have felt like dancing at the time but he looked pretty miserable when we knocked at his door to arrest him."
Unemployed Matumona, who has a long criminal record including theft, shoplifting, criminal damage and vehicle interference, was jailed for 22 weeks at Birmingham Magistrates Court on July 7, having admitted theft.
Sgt Lawless urged car owners to not only ensure their vehicles are locked, but that valuables are not left on display inside.
