A 12-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The arrest comes after a man in his 40s was attacked outside a McDonald's restaurant in Warrington Street in the town centre of Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside on Wednesday evening.
The man, who is still to be formally identified, was taken to hospital where he later died in the early hours of Thursday.
The 12-year-old is the fourth boy to be held on suspicion of murder after the arrests of a 17-year-old and two 16-year-old boys.
Tributes and flowers have been left outside the fast food restaurant where the victim was fatally attacked.
"This has been quite a fast moving investigation and we have now made three further arrests, bringing the total number of people we have in custody to four," Detective Inspector Kevin O'Regan, from Greater Manchester Police, said.
"Our investigation continues and I would urge anybody with information to please contact police, no matter how insignificant you think it may be."
The victim's name is expected to be released by police on Monday.
