Spurs midfielder Alli: I'll play anywhere for England

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli says he's happy to play anywhere on the pitch as he faces a battle with captain Wayne Rooney for his preferred role.

Alli, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season, normally operates as a No.10, but new manager Sam Allardyce has already said Rooney will play there.

Rooney has been placed there by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and there will be continuity at international level.

The former MK Dons youngster is happy to operate where the manager seems fit, as England prepare for their first World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia on Sunday.

Everyone likes a bit of competition.

I'm going to keep working hard and I will be happy to play anywhere for the country. I'm young and would like to play anywhere. If the manager chooses Wayne to play in the number 10 role then that's not my decision to make.

I will take it and keep working hard. I'm not really bothered where he puts me, I'm just happy to be out there to help my country.
