Eight-man machete street fight sparks police probe

An eight-man machete fight in broad daylight has sparked a police investigation.

Police were called to a street in Atherton, Greater Manchester, shortly before 11am on Monday following reports of a collision between three cars and men fighting with the broad blades.

One man was left with minor injuries while the three vehicles, a Fiat Stilo, Vauxhall Astra and Vauxhall Omega, were found abandoned.

Detective Sergeant Craig Hurst of Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan borough said: “This is an unbelievable incident on the streets of Atherton.

“I know the community will be alarmed but we are putting all our efforts into finding those responsible".

No arrests were made while the victim did not require hospital treatment.

Police are now appealing for witnesses with information to come forward.
