A pedestrian walking along a motorway was killed in a collision involving an Iceland supermarket van.
The pedestrian was knocked down just before 3am on Tuesday as he walked along the M4 near Reading, Berkshire.
Police are now attempting to establish why the person was on the motorway when he was hit between junctions 10 and 11.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Sadly, the pedestrian died at the scene.
"The lorry driver is uninjured but is believed to have suffered from shock".
Supermarket chain Iceland confirmed one of its drivers and vans had been involved in the collision.
