A seven-year-old schoolboy has died after colliding with a car on his way to school in Dorset.
The boy was taken to Poole Hospital with critical injuries after he was hit by a silver Peugeot 107 on Wednesday. He died later in the afternoon.
A Dorset Police spokesman said the boy's family is being supported by specially trained officers.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Road Policing Team, said: “It is with great sadness I inform you that the boy involved in the collision this morning has died. Our thoughts are with his family.
“Officers are continuing to liaise with local schools to give reassurances and to offer assistance at this difficult time."
Dorset Police appealed to witnesses who may have been in the Canford Heath area of Poole, Dorset to come forward with any information.
Inspector Butler added: "There were a number of people in the area at the time of the collision and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, and has not yet spoken to police, to please contact us as soon as possible."
