Woman killed 'chasing dog' which escaped onto motorway is named

A woman who died after being hit by a Ford Transit van on the motorway while reportedly chasing her dog has been named.

Patricia Joyce Connors, 66, was identified by South Wales Police less than 24 hours after she was struck on the M4 near Cardiff around 6.15pm on Friday.

Police said they believed Ms Connors had been following her dog after it ran into the busy road.

The animal had reportedly escaped from Ms Connors' Volkswagen Golf, leading her to struck by the van on the westbound carriage.

Officers said Ms Connors died at the scene and that family have now been informed.

The incident resulted in the M4 being closed for five hours while officers investigated.

South Wales Police described Ms Connors' family as "heartbroken".

In a statement, officers said: "The family of Patricia Joyce Connors are heartbroken trying to come to terms with a tragic accident that has taken a loving mum, grandmother and great-grandmother."
