Holiday at home, says culture secretary

Holidaymakers in the UK are being offered huge discounts on hotels and attractions in a bid to encourage them to holiday at home this summer.

The "staycation" campaign was launched today (Tuesday March 7) by the Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt in a bid to capitialise on the 2012 London Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

It includes a TV advert featuring big stars like Stephen Fry and Julie Waters.

Tourists spend more than nine billion pounds in the East of England. Nearly half of that comes from day visitors.
