Northampton Saints' fifth cup final in five seasons ended in disappointment against fierce rivals Leicester Tigers, who won the the LV= Anglo Welsh cup by 26 points to 14.
It was the clubs' first ever meeting in a major domestic cup final. Both sides traded penalties early in the first half before the Tigers crossed for a try through Steve Mafi.
Trailing 16-9 at half time, the Saints started the second half strongly. But Tigers winger Scott Hamilton intercepted a pass from Stephen Myler to run unchallenged for a second try.
Christian Day touched down for the Saints late in the game. The defeat means they have to finish in the top four of the Aviva Premiership to book qualify for next season's Heineken Cup competition.
