The ITV Business Club in the Anglia region has been discussing George Osborne's upcoming Budget.
With the budget just a day away we’ve been consulting the ITV Anglia Business Club about how significant it is, what measures the Chancellor George Osborne should be considering and what he should be trying to avoid. Club members include the managing director of Adnams Brewery as well as experienced business people from the manufacturing, retail and service sectors.
The consensus of opinion among the seven members who attended the event at Norwich City’s ground was that this is the most significant budget for years. Members saw it as a chance for Mr Osborne to nurture a slight recovery in the economy both regionally and nationally.
The buzzword that emerged from around the table was “confidence” with all seven members agreeing that measures were needed to give companies the confidence to invest in staff, expansion or new equipment. Examples of measures our club members wanted the Chancellor to introduce included reducing VAT and fuel duty, not increasing business rates and making it easier for small businesses to get the finance they need in their early years.
