Royal approval for children’s self portraits

Self portraits by children from 28 Norwich school to be projected on Buckingham Palace Photo:

Self portraits by children from 28 Norwich schools and one city Brownie pack are set to be projected onto the front of Buckingham Palace this week as part of a national art education project.

The project, called Face Britain, has been devised by The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts to celebrate the nation’s children and young people in the lead-up to The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The images will be projected to form a montage image of The Queen.

More than 200,000 children aged between four and 16 from across the country produced their own self portraits including drawings, textiles, 3D, paintings, graphics and photography.

From 8.30pm on Thursday 19 April, the images will be screened for 24 hours on the official London 2012 Live Site in Norwich, making the city part of a Guinness World Record attempt for the most artists working on the same installation. Other live sites around the country will also be taking part.
