Unemployed people travelling to job interviews on c2c rail services in Essex won't have to pay for tickets.

The company has started the scheme to help people get back into work.

It is also offering a free two month season ticket for commuters when they do get a job.

Christopher Stewart, 24, from Pitsea had a two-month free travel-to-work ticket from Basildon to Southend Central worth more than £250 to get to his sales job.

He said: "The free ticket really helped; if I didn't have it there was no way I would have been able to get to that job."

The Job Start scheme offer is for up to six free tickets to and from interviews, and then up to a two-month free season ticket once appointed.
