Labour won back power in 2011 for the first time since 2004 overturning a Con/Lib Dem coalition. The party doubled its majority in 2012 from 8 to 16.

New council: Lab 32 (+4), Con 12 (-3), LD 4 (-1)

2008 share of the vote

Con 41%, Lab 34%, LD 19%, Others 6%
