The head of the insurance giants Aviva, based in Norwich, has been forced to stand down following a shareholder revolt.

Andrew Moss has left the company, which was formerly Norwich Union, with immediate effect after more than half the shareholders failed to back executive pay awards.

Mr Moss had previously turned down a pay-rise that would take his annual salary to more than £1 million.
