Four players from the Anglia region have been included in Team GB's womens' hockey squad for the Olympics, announced this morning (May 18th) at London's Stock Exchange.
Hitchin born Helen Richardson, Great Dunmow's Chloe Rogers, Annie Panter from Wellingborough and Hannah Mcleod from Huntingdon make up a quarter of the 16-strong Great Britain squad.
30-year-old Richardson will be making her third appearance at an Olympic Games, following Sydney in 2000 and Beijing in 2008.
Speaking at the team announcement, Helen said:
"I feel extremely privileged to have been selected to represent Team GB for a third Olympic Games. There’s no better feeling than playing for Great Britain, and having the chance to compete in front of a home crowd will be truly inspiring.
“The squad selected represents a wider training group and we’ll do absolutely everything in our power to make them proud."
Both Chloe Rogers (27) and Annie Panter (28) were also part of the GB squad in Beijing, but the blue and pink pitch at the Olympic Park's Riverbank Arena will provide Hannah MacLeod (28) with a first taste of Olympic competition.
The womens' tournament at the London Olympics runs from July 29th to August 10th.
