A crash involving a potato lorry has caused the A47 south of Norwich to be closed for much of the day.

Emergency services were called just after 10am to the stretch between the Thickthorn Roundabout and the junction with the A140 Ipswich Road.

A lorry travelling in the direction of Great Yarmouth crashed through the central reservation. It's thought it had hit a car travelling in the same direction before it went onto the opposite carriageway. Drivers travelling westbound had to avoid the load of potatoes that the lorry shed as it overturned.

Police at the scene confirmed that the lorry driver had died. One other person was treated for minor injuries at the scene, and people from the two other vehicles affected were uninjured.

As a result of the closure, the A11, A140 and B1113 coming into Norwich were particularly badly affected with journeys of a few miles taking around an hour, even several hours after the crash happened.

The road has now reopened, with one lane in each direction closed for barrier repairs which will go on into the night.
