A team from the concilitaion service Acas will meet with Essex Fire bosses and union officials today to try and stop a series of strikes from going ahead.

Firefighters are due to stage five strikes between July and October this year in a dispute over changes to their working practices.

The Fire Brigades Union claim the county will have lost one in five frontline staff since 2008 if the changes go ahead.

However bosses at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service insist there will be no job losses

The key to resolving the dispute is getting the right people in the room at the same time. The only way of breaking the stalemate is to ensure those doing the negotiations have the power to broker a deal.
