Eddie Maher today appeared at court in Ipswich, charged with stealing more than a million pounds from a security van at Felixstowe in 1993.
He arrived in Britain early this morning on an overnight flight from the United States where he'd been living and where he'd been arrested on firearms and immigration charges.
The American authorities have dropped the charges against him and agreed to his deportation to England.
Today's hearing lasted just six minutes.
He confirmed his name as Edward Maher and his date of birth but his barrister Richard Atchley said he would not be entering a plea to the charge of theft at this stage.
He was remanded in custody for a week.
There was no application for bail.
