Sean Jacklin, son of golf legend Tony Jacklin, will be taking part in the English Challenge Golf tournament in Essex.

The young American is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his two-time major winning father by making his name in the game.

The 20-year-old plays in the English Challenge at Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa this week, part of the European Challenge Tour.

The Challenge Tour will be the biggest highlight of my summer. It’s great to be able to expand my horizons and I know from talking to people that it’s the best way to learn about life as a professional touring golfer.

The Challenge Tour is a good gateway to The European Tour and I’ll try and make that step up to the major tours any way that I can.

Nick Dougherty, a three-time European Tour winner, is amongst the players in the field at the £125,000 event this week, as are local Essex players Daniel Brooks, Matthew Southgate and Dale Whitnell and Challenge Tour Rankings leader Gary Lockerbie.

Entry is free to spectators and there will also be free golf clinics offered at the Driving Range during the 4 day event.

These will be open to the public – adults and juniors, beginners and intermediates, and will be held at the following times - you can just turn up on the day and join the class – golf clubs will be provided.
