Small chocolate companies in our region are bucking the recession and posting large profits. Gnaw employs nine people at a factory on the edge of Norwich.

The company has seen sales increase threefold in just 17 months. Hotel Chocolat, based in Huntingdon, sells its high end confectionery to 55 outlets across the world.

There is big business in bars of chocolate despite the global financial crisis. Chocolatiers say this is because people still want small luxuries and can afford a good bar of chocolate.

The UK is the seventh biggest consumer of chocolate in the world getting through about 660,900 tonnes of chocolate a year - that's around 3 bars each a week.

The industry is now worth £3.7 billion in the UK alone.
