Royal Mail has announced plans to close its processing centre in Cambridge, and move operations to Peterborough and Chelmsford.
The proposals are currently under consultation, with a final decision expected in the next few months. The company says it is too early to say whether it will mean job losses for any of the 200 staff currently working at the Cambridge site.
Royal Mail says the move has been prompted by declining volumes of post, and competition from other forms of communication, such as email. It has made the proposals as part of a countrywide review into its mail centres.
