Thrills and spills of the Tour of Britain

The East Anglian stage of the Tour of britain cycle race saw riders set off from Ipswich at ten o clock, following a route close to the Suffolk coast, through Woodridge up to Lowestoft, then into Norfolk, to Coltishall, Dereham and ending at the Royal Norfolk showground.

Temperatures were in the high 20s, a bonus for the spectators on the Norfolk broads but hard going for the cyclists on their 127 mile journey.

As they sped towards the Norfolk Showground there were gasps from spectators as Mark Cavendish and others crashed with just metres to go meaning a surprise win for his team mate Luke Rowe.

So no dream ending in the East on Sunday, but a chance to see world class cycling on our doorstep and still seven stages to go.
