The celebrity chef Delia Smith has helped to launch a foodbank in Stowmarket.
It's based at the town's Community Centre and is the brainchild of a number of local churches. Referral forms for those living on the breadline will be placed around the town.
The cookery writer has agreed to open the first food bank in Stowmarket, which is surrounded by wealthy villages where homes regularly cost more than million pounds.
An organiser of the church-linked project said:"There is a lot of money in this part of Suffolk but it is not evenly distributed. "A town like Stowmarket has families who are really struggling to pay their food bills every week." Under the scheme, launched by Delia in the town on Thursday, people will be able to donate basic tinned and packet foods which will be distributed by volunteers to needy families.
