The number of people sharing car journeys is on the increase according to new figures out.
The Norwich based company Liftshare.com say the hike in petrol prices has led to a 15% increase in the number of people sharing lifts with others.
In the first eight months of this year, 30,839 people got in touch with others driving their way on the liftshare.com network. This compares to 26,741 during the same period in 2011.
Today sees the start of Liftshare week- encouraging others to follow suit.

In the last two months alone, unleaded prices have risen by 5.8% and diesel prices have risen by 5%.
There are no signs that prices are going to stop spiralling, and many motorists are now spending more on fuel every month than on food. As many drivers can't afford to give up their cars, liftshare is witnessing a significant increase in the number of people inviting others to share lifts.
