A seal pup rescued from a bathtub in Spalding in Lincolnshire is being released back into the wild by rescuers from Hunstanton Sea Life Centre.
Fully recovered from her ordeal, pup Jessi-Jane will be released with three others on the beach at Snettisham, watched by her namesake Paralympics gold medalist Jessica-Jane Applegate.
Seal rescuers at Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary took an emergency call in June from Spalding, where a resident was looking after a seal pup in his bath. The pup had been spotted five days earlier on the beach at Holbeach and was clearly in distress.
She was given the name Jessi-Jane in line with an Olympics theme for all the Sanctuary’s rescued seal pups this year. The 16-year-old Paralympic swimmer – who went on to claim gold in the 200 metres freestyle - was so delighted she visited the pup herself later the same month.
