Region battered by bad weather

Winds of over 60mph have battered parts of the region today bringing down trees and blocking roads.

The weather conditions are adding to the flooding problems which have built up over the weekend.

The Environment Agency has 23 Flood Warnings still in force along with 35 Flood Alerts.

The wind is expected to die down later on Sunday but the rain will return on Sunday night.

The highest wind gusts recorded so far in the Anglia region was 61 mph at Weybourne in Norfolk.

A number of roads have been blocked by either trees falling or flooding. Some of those include:

  • A1101 Wash Road AT Welney closed in both directions due to flooding between B1100 New Road (Welney) and Bell's Drove (Suspension Bridge village). Police say some drivers still attempting to get through.
  • A361 Daventry in both directions closed due to flooding between A45 (Daventry) and B4037 (Badby).
  • A4500 Northampton closed in both directions due to flooding between M1 J16 / A45 (Daventry) and A5076 Upton Way (Sixfields Roundabout).
